About ICAC
Home

The Institute of Clean Air Companies, (ICAC) is the nonprofit national association of companies working in the stationary source air pollution control and monitoring sector. The Institute’s members include leading system and component suppliers of monitoring and control technologies for PM, NOx, SO2, Hg, VOCs and other HAPs. ICAC  advances the common business interests of its members by working for strong, flexible clean air policies that rest on sound technical basis and that promote public health, environmental quality and industrial progress.

ICAC’s Primary Functions Include:

Annual Market Survey

Each year ICAC prepares an in-depth analysis of the air pollution control market and measurement markets.  The report contains historical statistics and annual forecasts for coming years, along with tables, graphs and salient market comments.  The specific markets covered in the report include:  Electrostatic Precipitators, Fabric Filters, Wet Scrubbers, VOC Controls, NOx Controls, Flue Gas Desulfurization, Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems, and Reagent Usage.  The full report is provided to full members and a summary is provided to associate members.  Associate members may purchase the full report at a discounted price.

Information Clearinghouse

ICAC reports regularly on national and international industry news in the:

Government Relations

Federal, regional, and state clean air policy is critical to the size and shape of the air pollution control industry. ICAC has a long history of successfully influencing legislation and rules at all levels of government. ICAC conducts a vigorous government relations program designed to educate federal, regional, and state officials on the capabilities of members' air pollution control products and processes, and the industry's views on policy issues. This program includes regular face-to-face briefings and correspondence. ICAC also testifies formally and informally on proposed actions of interest to the industry. In aggressively promoting the air pollution control industry, ICAC also seeks a cooperative, rather than an adversarial, relationship with government decision-makers and other interested parties.

Industry Relations

ICAC works with many others - including regulated industry - concerning with national, state, and local environmental issues. Where possible, ICAC coordinates its government relations activities with these groups. ICAC also features users of air pollution control technology in its technical conferences, including its well-known and successful Forum Series.

Division and Committee Activities

All ICAC companies have the opportunity to attend ICAC's Annual Meeting and work with their industry peers by joining one or more of ICAC's divisions. This work includes development of technical standards, buyers guides, briefings for user groups and government decision-makers, and testimony on all major federal and regional clean air proposals, as well as selected state actions.

Current Divisions Are:

These Divisions form Committees as appropriate.

Media Relations

ICAC maintains continuing contact with the media and is a central source of information on matters involving  the air pollution control industry. The Institute, for example, issues press releases, and provides background, explanatory and corrective data for news stories.

Promotion of Technology through Journals

ICAC maintains relationships with various trade journals in which the association writes technical articles on relevant topics. For example, ICAC writes quarterly columns in A&WMA’s Environmental Managers (EM) Magazine.

Advertising on ICAC Website

ICAC advertises member company products on the ICAC website including:

Members-Only Website

The ICAC Members-Only website provides a host of information on issues that are available solely to ICAC members.  The members-only website contains a host of information including (but not limited to):

ICAC Technical Conferences

ICAC features its member companies’ technologies in its technical conferences and workshops.  The conferences typically involve two days of technical presentations providing members the opportunity to discuss recent experience and developments in control and measurement.  Exhibit areas are also provided at the conference to allow members to interact with potential clients, regulators and others in the vendor community.  ICAC provides a discount on attendance and  exhibit booths for its members at these conferences.

ICAC Air Regulatory Agenda

This document sets out the status and timetable for future action of all key pending regulations and policies of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Clean Air Act.  This document lists all EPA regulations that are being considered, proposed or finalized.  For each regulation there is an abstract of the subject matter, CFR citation, legal deadline, the current timetable for future action, and the EPA contact (name and e-mail) who is responsible for the matter.  It is updated twice a year as a service for members of the Institute of Clean Air Companies.

Conference Cosponsorship

ICAC endorses a number of conferences each year providing additional exposure to member companies as well as some opportunities for member companies to speak or chair sessions at the conferences.  Sometimes discounts are given to ICAC members that attend such conferences.  Some of the recent conferences cosponsored by ICAC include:  ISA’s NOx Emissions & Source Monitoring Technical Conference and Training, Electric Utilities Environmental Conference, Chem Show, CIBO Environmental Issues for Energy Generation in the Non-Utility Sector Conference, etc.

Annual Meeting

The ICAC annual meeting provides an opportunity for all of the members to provide input into the planning process for the upcoming fiscal year.  The ICAC technical divisions meet at the annual meeting to discuss specific projects and future goals.  ICAC is given the opportunity to discuss the accomplishments of the previous year and invites guest speakers that talk to members about relevant industry topics. The next annual meeting will be held from April 21-24, 2010 at the South Seas Island Resort in Fort Meyers, Florida.

Current Event Briefing Series

ICAC arranges guest speakers to address member companies via conference calls regarding current industry topics.  These briefings provide an opportunity for members to hear presentations that are tailored to the air pollution control industry and to ask specific questions of experts.  Some of the recent briefings that have been hosted by ICAC include discussions of recent regulatory requirements such as the CAIR rulemaking, CAMR rulemaking, Industrial Boiler MACT, Multipollutant Legislative Overview (Clear Skies), etc.

Networking Opportunities

ICAC provides numerous opportunities for members to network with other members at any of the various division meetings, technical conferences, and annual meetings.  Through these meetings, business relationships are developed amongst members through both ICAC social and meeting functions.
