Quarterly Update from the ICAC President:

Dear ICAC Members,

On February 27, the ICAC Board of Directors held a productive meeting at the ICAC office in Arlington, VA, and I am happy to report to the membership on a number of items on behalf of the ICAC Board and staff.

Welcoming a New Board Member
The ICAC Board of Directors was pleased to welcome our newest Board member, Rich Curran, President of Perma Pure. Rich brings a valuable perspective to the table, representing the Associate-level membership of ICAC. We look forward to the fresh ideas and contributions from Rich and Perma Pure going forward.

Communicating ICAC’s Value
In previous Board meetings, the Board of Directors has discussed ways in which we can work with the ICAC staff to increase the value of membership in our organization. We have also been working to communicate this value and share the significant progress the Association has made. ICAC has developed a communications strategy to improve engagement with current members by sharing more relevant information in effective ways, providing boutique services for unique interest areas, and increasing the number of opportunities available to members. In addition, the Board and staff are working diligently to target new potential members, create attractive recruitment materials, and communicate the meaningful value of joining ICAC. As we continue to grow our communications strategy, we invite all members to provide feedback by emailing icacinfo@icac.com.

Exciting Opportunities Ahead
In the coming months, I am excited to invite all members to participate in the activities available through ICAC. Such opportunities include:

USTDA Reverse Trade Missions & Department of Commerce Trade Mission
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has funded two reverse trade missions (RTMs) on coal-fired power plant emissions control and monitoring. USTDA and ICAC are excited to bring together ICAC members and the delegates from each RTM for presentations from ICAC member companies in Arlington, VA. There are also sponsorship opportunities for members to host a lunch for the delegates and other ICAC members in attendance. The meeting with the delegates from Romania, South Africa and Turkey will be held on April 12, and the meeting with the delegates from India, Indonesia and Vietnam will be held on May 15. There are also opportunities for ICAC members to attend business briefings in Pittsburgh and Kansas City (click here for more info).

Additionally, the Department of Commerce has approached ICAC to assist in organizing a trade mission for American companies to travel to China. This trade mission has already received approval and funding and will focus on VOC controls. As this event is currently in the early planning stages, details and opportunities for ICAC members are not yet available. Please keep an eye out for your chance to participate in the development of the schedule, meetings and networking during the trade mission soon.

ICAC Clean Air Summit
This year’s Clean Air Summit is shaping up to be one of our best meetings yet. The keynote addresses will be held at the White House, featuring Mary Neumayr (Chief of Staff, White House Council on Environmental Quality - invited), Bill Wehrum (Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation, U.S. EPA), and Steven Winberg (Assistant Secretary, Office of Fossil Energy, U.S. Department of Energy - invited). The White House event will be preceded by a number of engaging panel discussions featuring the industry’s leading experts and stakeholders. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to play golf at Congressional Country Club, attend a private Washington museum tour, and participate in a networking reception at The Occidental. I highly encourage you and your colleagues to reserve your space at this innovative, invitation-only event that is curated each year for ICAC members. Learn more and register today by visiting www.icac.com/2018CAS.

2018 MEGA Symposium
The MEGA Symposium is back in 2018 with a reinvigorated program and a new sponsor – ICAC! We are proud to support this highly respected conference with a more than 20-year history of being the most technical-focused meeting in our industry. This year, MEGA will bring together both policy and engineering with panel discussions and keynotes from a variety of sectors. We have also expanded the focus to also include a poster session on innovative carbon capture technologies that are emerging in our industry. The deadline to submit an abstract to present at the conference has been extended to April 5, 2018. Registration for MEGA is now open. Visit www.awma.org/MEGA.

Board Member and Officer Elections
At the May 10, 2018 membership meeting (the final day of the Clean Air Summit), the ICAC membership will vote on Board members up for (re)election and a new slate of officers. If you are interested in running for election or would like to nominate someone to run for election on the ICAC Board of Directors, please contact Clare Schulzki (cschulzki@icac.com) by April 2, 2018 with your name (or nominee’s name), company, title and contact information. The full slate of Board members and officers up for election will be circulated to the membership prior to the membership meeting for review.

Ensuring Consistency and Transparency
A committee of Board members and ICAC staff have worked since last August to review the ICAC bylaws and provide suggested revisions in order to provide consistency, transparency, and clarity going forward. Following a thorough review process, the Board of Directors has now approved the committee’s recommended changes to the ICAC bylaws. These suggested revisions will be circulated soon and subsequently voted upon by the full membership at the May 10, 2018 membership meeting.

If you have any questions regarding the February 27 Board of Directors meeting or any other ICAC matters, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me or the ICAC staff. Thank you for your continued participation in ICAC and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

Warm Regards,

Michael Corvese
President, ICAC
